I became interested in photography when I won enough money in a neighbourhood poker game (beginner’s luck), to purchase my first slr camera.... a Canon AE-1. Living on a farm, I mostly took pictures of cats and dogs, horses and cattle, but then the kids started sneaking into the pictures. I entered some in the local fair and won a few ribbons. And I was happy with that.

Until one year my neighbour asked me to take pictures for their wedding. I really wasn’t sure, and really shouldn’t have been shooting. I even did something really silly. You see it was July and hot. And a few days before the wedding, while out taking test shots, I thought we needed to keep the camera cool, so I put it in a cooler, with ice.

Don’t do that! It took days for the condensation to go away. But it did, just in time for me to shoot the wedding. And all was well. I don’t have to tell you that was a long time ago, since you know I was using film.

Since then, through referrals only, I have gone from shooting one or two weddings in a year, to 20 in some years. I have learned that I love weddings, and that they are one of the most important and special days in anyone’s life. Because of that, I treasure every bride and groom that has entrusted me with their photography for the day. I shoot with backup gear for everything, and always have a second shooter with me. Your day is just too important to me not to.

I strive to continue learning and growing in my craft. I am a member of WPPI (Weddings and Portrait Professionals International) and I enjoy taking workshops from my peers both online and in person.

I have been a member of the Lethbridge Photography Club for nearly as long as I’ve been shooting, which I enjoy not only for what I learn from being around such a diverse group of photographers, but also because it gives me a chance to give back and teach others what I have learned.

I live and shoot in the Lethbridge area of southern Alberta, Canada.
